In the North Georgia town of Calhoun, the cold winds did not deter people from attending a No Kings event that began at 10 a.m. About 70 mostly middle-aged protestors, held signs and chatted amiably with one another.
Some passing motorists honked their horns and expressed their approval, while others revved their engines and let diesel exhaust fill the air, car stereos blasting the song “YMCA,” an unofficial MAGA anthem. Some rolled down their windows and shouted “Trump 2028!”
Gordon County is deeply Republican and protesters seemed prepared to ignore them, sometimes even cheering to drown out the hecklers.
